One significant historical event that took place on June 14th is the adoption of the current design of the United States flag. On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution stating that "the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation."

This resolution established the design of the American flag with 13 alternating red and white stripes representing the original 13 colonies and a blue field with 13 white stars representing the unity of the states. Over time, as more states joined the Union, stars were added to the flag to represent each new state.
